Storytime with Ms. Kate
- Cost at time of registration: $20 per class
- When: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, starting July 6th and ending August 28th
- Time: Session 1 (9:00 – 9:45 AM), Session 2 (10:00-10:45 AM)
- Who: Ages 2 and 3
Discover the magic of the Saltaire Library at Storytime with Ms. Kate! This program is specially designed for children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. This engaging program invites you to share in your child’s early learning journey through music, stories, social play, and hands-on activities that support important developmental skills. Each week, you’ll explore a new author together and enjoy a themed craft inspired by the day’s book, sparking creativity and a love of reading. Storytime is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with other local families, build community, and even enjoy occasional “field trips” around town. Join us for a warm, welcoming experience full of learning, laughter, and discovery!
Book Bingo
- Cost at time of registration: $20 per class
- When: Mondays, starting July 6th and ending August 24th
- Time: 7:00-7:45pm
- Who: Best for ages 4-12 (helpful if they can identify two-digit numbers)
Join us for a Monday night Saltaire tradition! Our weekly Book Bingo is a favorite for kids, combining the excitement of Bingo with the joy of reading. Each week features three lively rounds of play, and every child has a chance to win a brand-new book to take home and enjoy. It’s a fun way to build a love of books, connect with friends, and be part of the Fire Island community.
STEAM and Stories
- Cost at time of registration: $20 per class
- When: Thursdays, starting July 9th and ending August 20th
- Time: 1:00 – 2:00 PM
- Who: Ages 7, 8, and 9 only
Discover the joy of learning with Ms. Maddie’s engaging STEAM adventures, specially designed for curious minds ages 7–9! Each Thursday, children will dive into a captivating story that sparks imagination and sets the stage for hands-on exploration. From exciting experiments to creative crafts and interactive games, every session brings Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) to life in a fun, approachable way. Young learners will build skills, confidence, and a love of discovery while having a great time!
Kids' Book Club
- No registration required. This is a free drop-in program with no cost.
- When: Tuesdays, starting July 7th and ending August 25th
- Time: 4:30 – 5:00 PM
- Who: Best for ages 6-12
Keep your child inspired to read all summer long with the library’s exciting book club! Each Tuesday, young readers will gather to share their current books, take part in engaging literacy-based activities, and celebrate their progress with fun incentives. Designed to support a range of reading levels, this program encourages children to explore books at their own pace while tracking their achievements in a personalized reading log. It’s the perfect blend of motivation, community, and a growing love of reading!
Tiny Explorers
- No registration required. This is a free drop-in program with no cost.
- When: Tuesdays, starting July 7th and ending August 25th
- Time: 11:1 5- 11:45am
- Who: Under 2 years old
Introduce your little one to a world of discovery with our brand-new Tiny Explorers program, specially designed for children under age two! In this nurturing and engaging environment, babies and young toddlers will explore through sensory play, music, and age-appropriate stories while building early literacy skills. Caregivers are an essential part of the experience, joining in to connect, play, and bond alongside their child. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support your child’s development while sharing meaningful moments together.
Open Play
- *No registration required. This is a drop-in program with no cost.
- When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting July 7th and ending August 27th
- Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM
- Who: Best for under 4 year olds, but open to all ages
Give your child a chance to play, explore, and connect at the Library’s Open Play Hour! This relaxed, lightly structured program offers a welcoming space for children to enjoy games, stories, and special toys brought out just for the occasion by our friendly library staff. While less formal than our traditional programs, Open Play is thoughtfully designed to encourage socialization, creativity, and imaginative play. It’s a wonderful option for children who may not yet be ready for camp, offering a fun and comfortable setting for building friendships through play.
Bedtime with Books
- Registration required. There is no cost for this program.
- When: Wednesday, July 15th and Wednesday, August 12th
- Time: 6:30 – 7:30 PM
- Who: All ages
Enjoy a cozy evening at the Library’s Bedtime with Books! Dressed in their favorite pajamas, children will wind down with a delightful selection of bedtime stories, rotating among our friendly volunteer readers for a variety of engaging tales. It’s the perfect way to relax after a busy day in the sun. Kids can also enjoy tasty snacks! We’re also seeking enthusiastic teen and adult volunteers to help bring this special event to life.
