Author Joshua Jelly-Schapiro brings this remarkable story to life through the lens of music, activism, and American culture. A local Fire Island resident, Jelly-Schapiro is an acclaimed writer, geographer, and journalism professor at New York University. His work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The New York Review of Books.
